Zentangle
Middle and High School Students will be studying drawing and painting skills this year, Art 2D. We have started with line pattern, and I wanted to share the popular doodle technique of Zentangle which...
is big in the art community right now. I explained the philosophy of the 'zen' in zentangle being to calm and empty your mind. I discussed this further with them, as a Christian group of students, how God's word teaches us to focus on filling our mind with scripture. I thought that this form of controlled line pattern would be a great way to highlight words that were important to the students while learning the technique.
Students were given worksheets with a variety of line patterns to imitate as well as room to create their own. We discussed where you might find these line patterns in our world (e.g. the bottom of your shoe, household items with textures, graphic tees). After creating their 'strings' in pencil, students got to work with their Uni-ball Vision Fine black pen (Love these!) and have been allowed to use only pen to learn problem solving skills when they make a mistake. These are turning out amazing...something about black and white work! I will post pictures when they complete this week.
