Zentangle completed

I just love the handcrafted look of these pieces of art.  Students worked hard for 4 one hour classes to complete and their diligence paid off!  These were small pieces of paper, too, at  4 1/2 X 6 inches. I have the students work with the Uni-ball Vision Fine black pen, and I love it because it it waterproof and works well on a variety of surfaces. When they had completed their line work, students were to choose one or two colors in colored pencil to shade after instructions were given for how to do this.  They could also choose to shade in graphite if they preferred which is traditional in Zentangle. They then mounted these onto colored construction paper that matched their colored pencil.  Beautiful work and I wish I could post all of them. These are all at various stages of completion.

Students who finished earlier were able to work on a Zentangle hand tracing.

Flowers with a Palette Knife

The semi-private lesson students worked to complete these in just two hours today.  TA-DAH! They were dry in time to take them home as well.  Gotta love acrylics!

I love this guy, er, or gal.  Here is a preview of a color theory lesson I will be teaching later this year.  So much fun!

Acrylic Painting Mug

Exemplar

Middle and High school students in my small group lessons are learning how to paint with acrylics.  I thought it would be great to begin with how to paint a form, and we are using a mug as our subject for this study.  They were only allowed to use two complementary colors and white paint.  They learned how to darken colors with the opposite color on the color wheel, how to make faux black, and how to make a neutral gray.

Student learned layering techniques with the paint that they will use to paint a still life in the next few weeks.  They worked on watercolor paper that I had previously added gesso on to seal.

Here are the student's work, and didn't they do a great job!

Zentangle

Middle and High School Students will be studying drawing and painting skills this year, Art 2D. We have started with line pattern, and I wanted to share the popular doodle technique of Zentangle which...

Line Pattern Crazy Quilt

Line pattern crazy quilt- My Exemplar

Elementary students have begun the year studying line patterns and have created a Crazy Quilt in the style of Gustav Klimt.  They first drew the face they wanted (either a person or an animal) on a separate piece of paper.  They cut this out and glued this onto the larger piece of paper they would be working with. I like the separate piece of paper because this gives them an opportunity to make several faces/ heads until they get the one they want.  The paper is divided into sections with thick lines by using a sharpie.  The line patterns are then added into each space.  They could repeat a pattern or color, just not next to each other.  The students did a fabulous job on these and they were really vibrant with the the colored marker.
